Noise filter installed in the radio

A noise filter is designed to reduce or eliminate noise that the radio is receiving through the power cord. The noise filter is primarily designed to eliminate alternator whine, windshield wiper noise, and blinker noise. This filter is designed in house by Clays Radio Shop technicians. It has more filtering capabilities than off the shelf filters costing twice the price of our filter. Over the years we have tried many high end filters offered by several manufactures and they simply don't work well. We have designed this filter to do what a noise filter is intended to do, eliminate electrical noise.

Other Types Of Noise & Possible Cures

There are many sources of noise in the radios receiver. Each noise type must be dealt with in a unique way. TV, phone chargers, inverters, AC fan motors, refrigerators, coolers, and radial tires can all generate a significant amount of noise in the radios receiver. Try these recommendations if you have excessive noise and can not seem to pinpoint the source.

Find a channel on the radio that has no traffic from other radio users. Turn the RF gain all the way to the right. Notate the amount of noise level in S units by your signal meter in the radio. Unplug each device, one at a time. TV, phone charger, inverter, refrigerator, and cooler. Look at the signal meter and notate any reduction in noise level after each device is unplugged. When you see a significant drop after a particular item is unplugged you have pinpointed the source. You can verify AC fan motor noise by turning the fan to the maximum position. If you see the meter on the radio raise you have fan motor noise.

Noise from radial tires can be verified with the same procedure. Find a channel on the radio that has no traffic from other radio users. Turn the RF gain all the way to the right. Notate the amount of noise level in S units by your signal meter in the radio. Now, drive down the highway at highway speed limits. If the noise level increases you have noise from the tires.

Once the source has been pinpointed you may try our recommendations in order to reduce or eliminate the noise.

Phone Charger - Install a ceramic disk capacitor (value .001) close to the cig plug from the positive wire to the negative wire.

Cooler - Install a ceramic disk capacitor (value .001) close to the cig plug from the positive wire to the negative wire.

AC Fan motor - Install a ceramic disk capacitor (value .001) from the positive wire to the negative wire as close to the fan motor as possible. Install two additional ceramic disk capacitors, one from the ground wire to the case of the fan motor and one from the positive wire to the case of the fan motor.

Radial Tires - Purchase anti static/tire balancer from an auto parts suppler. Fill each tire with the recommended amount (per your tire size)

TV - no cure, unplug the TV when not in use.

Inverter - If your inverter produces noise you have an inverter that uses a modified sign wave. The cure is to replace the inverter with another type that uses a pure sign wave.

Refrigerator - no cure. The noise is produced from the compressor.
